This time, it's not the kids.
Ha!
I have always wanted to draw on the walls, in a permanent way. Using real paint. And there is this large wall in our front room that really needs some texture or pattern. Viola! A project!
Using chalk, I drew out a pattern. Sadly, none of my pictures could capture it. Actually, you can hardly see it at all unless you are right next to the wall or there is a lot of natural light in the room. If you are using chalk to draw your own patterns, I highly recommend using a contrasting color - light blue on a greyish-green isn't enough contrast.
Then I went to the paint store. This pattern of mine should be fairly subtle, so I wanted to stick with a relative of the color already on the walls (Eddie Bauer's Linen from Lowe's Valspar line).
A few days before starting this project, I happened to read in a magazine that you can ask for a color to be made up at a percentage of the original color - lightening it without mistakes, essentially. So I asked the paint associate to make the paint 50% of the original color. Never having asked for such a thing, I was pretty amazed that she knew exactly what I was talking about. She was pretty annoyed that I was amazed.
Now I can start painting. Since it's freehand, it may take me a loooong while. Here's what I have so far:
Fun, huh? I'll keep you posted on how this goes!
Can't wait to see the updates!
