The Delivery Debacle

As we all now know, heat loss is Doug's nemesis. He spent last winter worrying about the house and all the heat it was losing, which led to more roof insulation and a cabinet door for the cubby in the kitchen. Then he was worried about his detached garage, which we call the shop, or the "Doug-out". He purchased all the insulation for that space, and installed it in the roof and over most of the walls. Not sure why he hasn't finished that - but whatever. Now he has turned his attention to the attached garage.

Watch out.

He ordered an insulation kit for the garage door last week online. Then he tracked his packages relentlessly. Especially after another package - from a different company - went returned because "recipient refused package". We never saw a package. Hm.

Thus it was that Doug was at the door, staring down the UPS man on the day his package was out for delivery. His eyeball tactics didn't slow the man down, though, and he called UPS. Apparently, the address on the package was incorrect. The address on the package didn't even exist, but was next to our address. The shipper was going to be charged double, and we were not going to get our package.

Part of me wondered how the address was incorrect, but I didn't dare ask Doug if it was his mistake, since steam had started coming out his ears.

Then I received a call from UPS, letting us know that the driver would attempt another delivery by the end of the day. Really, another one? Did he really even attempt the first one? I have had drivers in the past knock on nearby doors to ask for the recipient, but apparently that was a little above and beyond for this guy.

The driver did deliver it about an hour later. He was a little sour. Whatever, I was still nice to him, and Doug was thrilled to come home to his insulation boxes.

How thrilled? Enough to start working on that garage door immediately.

An hour-and-a-half later, the garage door was insulated. It still needs to be sealed - a gasket that runs on the sides and the top - but it is quieter and much warmer in there.

So what does Doug say? "Now all I need is blackout curtains. But it doesn't have to be right away."

No pressure.
